In 5 Fundamentals of Leadership - Leadership Development | Simon Sinek, Sinek mentioned that James Carsey a theologian from NYU wrote a little book called "finite and infinite games" in which he talks about games and how we play them. There are finite games and there are infinite games. Finite games have known players, fixed rules, agreed objectives and scoring, and an end-point. Infinite games have known and unknown players, and changeable rules, with the only objective of keeping the game in play, endlessly.  

It is obvious that men are finite living in an infinite world. Our mindset tends to be finite and we are more concerned with our present short life. But Jesus has offered the infinite eternal life to us and so as believers, we must adopt the infinite mindset. We should look beyond our present limited physical life into the infinite life with Jesus. I was prompted to use ChapGPT to "preach a sermon on finite and infinite mindsets for Christians". The response from ChapGPT is great. So I include its "sermon" for our learning and reminder:

！Our Calling of Life

• Heb 4:14 Therefore,
  • since we have a great high priest who has gone to heaven, Jesus the Son of God,

  • let us live our lives consistent with our confession of faith. 

    ! Our walk should be consistent with our talk - our preaching and sharing of the Gospel

Facing our Weaknesses

• Heb 4:15
  • For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses.

    God understands our weaknesses and challenges. That is His mercy

  • Instead, we have one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet he never sinned.

    God overcomes temptations with His grace, overcoming power

Overcoming

    !  Go to God always - Despite & especially our failures

1 Self Control Is

• Self-control, also known as self-discipline, refers to the ability to regulate one's thoughts, emotions, and actions in order to achieve long-term goals， in personal well-being and good relationships. It involves making conscious choices and resisting impulsive behaviors or temptations.
• keep all things in balance, just right, not over and not under
• e.g.
  • can drink without being drunk
  • can celebrate by partying without going wild causing harm and destruction
• But also because of others, I restrict my freedom or rights

2 Problem with No Self-Control

• Proverbs 25:28
  • "Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control."

    !Without self-control, we can easily be overcome by others and situations. It is a big weakness that can be exploited.

  • "Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city."

    ! A person with self-control is better than a conqueror. Why? A conqueror bully but a Self-control person convert an enemy into a friend. Rom 8:37

3 Self-Discipline has been given by God

  • "For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline."

    ! Power & Love needs to be managed by Self-discipline. Power alone could be brutal. Love alone may spoil the person.

• 上帝所赐、出人意外的平安，必在基督耶稣里保守你们的心怀意念。

• ！信靠、盼望和圣灵的能力 -》和平
• 使你们借着圣灵的能力满有盼望。
• 马太福音 11:28-30：
• "凡劳苦担重担的人可以到我这里来，我就使你们得安息。
• ！到耶稣这里来，将你所有的忧虑和负担交给他。
• 你们当负我的轭，学我的样式，
• ！解决办法就是听从耶稣的教导。
• 因为我的轭是容易的，我的担子是轻省的。"

6 公义带来平安 - ！清洁的良心

• 以赛亚书 32:17
• 公义的果效是平安；公义的效验是平静和确信，直到永远。
• 提摩太后书 2:22
• 你要同那些以清心呼求主的人追求公义、信德、爱心、和平。
• 罗马书 8:6
• 属肉体的思念乃是死；属圣灵的思念乃是生命和平。

结论：

• 与上帝和好并且在祂里面持守，接受祂的平安。
• 在内心拥有祂的平安，我们就有勇气面对挑战和危机。
• 我们也可以与他人建立良好的关系，甚至成为调解者解决别人的冲突。
• 行走在公义中，拥有清洁的良心。
• 寻求、专注、将我们的忧虑交托给爱我们的上帝，然后信靠祂并跟随祂的引导。

祷告：

愿我们首先与上帝和好，并藉着耶稣基督得到祂的平安。让我们在挑战中保持在祂的平安中。我们只需要专注并信靠上帝，祂会赐给我们智慧和恩典，以谦卑和温柔来克服困难，与他人和睦相处，在冲突中成为调解者，将上帝的和平带入各种情境中并荣耀上帝。赞美上帝，祂给予并带来了所有的平安。阿门。
