My Worship, My Words
๐ฑ It All Begins with Who You Worship
Our behavior comes from our thoughts. Our thoughts come from what and Who we focus on and know. If our focus is wrong, our thinking will be wrong — and our actions will be wrong. It all begins with Who do you worship…
Because He Is My Rock and My Redeemer
David ends his psalm not with a grand declaration, but with a quiet prayer about his own words and thoughts. This verse is often called a “prayer before preaching,” but it belongs to every believer, every day.
๐ฃ️ The Two Altars: Mouth and Heart
Words of my mouth and meditation of my heart — Jesus said, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” (Luke 6:45). We cannot merely police our speech; we must tend the garden of our hearts.
๐ฅ “Pleasing in Your Sight”
The Hebrew word carries the idea of acceptable — like a sacrifice without blemish. Not “Were my words clever?” but “Were they acceptable to God?”
⛰️ Because He Is My Rock and My Redeemer
He is my Rock — steadfast, faithful, unchanging. Because He is solid, my words can rest on something solid.
He is my Redeemer — He bought me back, He owns me, He loves me. Because I belong to Him, everything I am — including my inner life and my speech — belongs to Him too.
Because He is my Redeemer and Rock, I want my thinking and my saying to be my worship of Him.
- the thought you entertain
- the tone you use
- the words you choose
“Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice… this is your true and proper worship.”
๐ฟ Application
- Check your worship — what gets your focus?
- Pause & pray before you speak.
- Guard your inputs — feed on what is pure.
- Confess quickly — run to the Redeemer.
- Make it a habit, not a moment.
- Remember whose you are — every word is an offering.
