Reflection

Jesus calls us to radical love — praying for enemies, refusing to repay evil with evil. Hatred only breeds more hatred. Only love has power to truly change a heart.

But love is not blindness. Jesus gave us discernment: we recognize people by their fruit — their actions, not just words. Loving someone does not mean pretending thorns are figs, nor staying in harm’s way, enabling manipulation, or tolerating abuse.

⚖️ Wise love holds two truths together:

• I forgive from the heart — release bitterness, refuse retaliation (Matt 5:44).
• I evaluate with my eyes — watch their fruit, respond accordingly (Matt 7:20).

You can pray passionately for someone while keeping healthy distance. You can wish them well while saying “no” to exploitation. Reconciliation requires their change; forgiveness requires only yours.

• Without Wisdom/Discernment, Love becomes foolish and easily manipulated.
• Without Love, Wisdom becomes cold, calculating, and manipulative. True maturity requires both operating simultaneously.

Think of one person who has hurt or opposed you. Today, commit to two things:

• ❶ Pray for them by name — not for punishment, but for their genuine good and salvation.
• ❷ Examine their fruit honestly — and let wisdom guide how much access they have to your life.

Let your love be kind & shrewd · real & protected

🙏 Prayer

Father, Your love is scandalous — I cannot manufacture it on my own. Today, I choose to release bitterness toward those who have hurt me. I pray for their blessing, healing, and turning toward You.

But give me wisdom too. Open my eyes to see fruit clearly, not through denial or fear. Help me to love without being used, to forgive without being foolish, and to pray without putting myself or others in danger.

Let my own fruit be undeniable — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. And let my life prove that love, joined with wisdom, is the most powerful force on earth. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

Hatred returns evil for evil.
Naive love absorbs evil and multiplies it.
But wise love absorbs evil in prayer, returns good in action, sets boundaries in truth, and lets God be the final judge.
That is the fruit of a disciple.
