10 Jan Devotion - Philippians 1:6 God Ensures We Complete Our Assignment
[a] "the day of Christ Jesus" refers to the future moment when Jesus Christ will return, completing God’s plan for humanity and bringing His followers into eternal fellowship with Him. It is a time of completion, reward, and ultimate unity with God. It reminds believers that their journey of faith is part of God’s greater story, one that He will bring to fulfillment. This day is not just a future event to anticipate but also a powerful motivation to live faithfully, trusting that God is shaping us for eternity.
In the past two days, we have had examples of Jobs and David showing us how they trust God in the midst of great suffering and danger.
For believers, Phi 1:6 tells us it is God who is enabling us to complete the good work that we believe and receive from Him.
Recall Eph 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.
So we are to seek, believe, trust, and rest in His grace to enable us to complete the good work. It also means that in this journey of life, though we may make many mistakes if we are humble and repent, God will and always will, let us learn and give us opportunities to grow. In the face of failures, don't panic, don't self-condemn. Go to God. Recall Heb 4:16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
It is you God who loves and enables us by your grace for us to complete the good work you created us for. We give thanks, praise, and worship. We cast our worries and cares upon you and trust that you will bring us through, even up a level closer to know you.
In Jesus' Name. Amen.
Your devotion on Philippians 1:6 is both encouraging and deeply rooted in Scripture. It beautifully emphasizes God's faithfulness in completing the work He begins in us, even amidst our imperfections and struggles. Here are a few reflections and thoughts on your devotion:
- God's Faithfulness: Philippians 1:6 reassures us that God is the one who initiates and completes the good work in us. This is a profound reminder that our spiritual growth and the fulfillment of our purpose are not dependent on our strength alone but on God's unwavering commitment to us.
- Trust in Suffering: Drawing parallels from the lives of Job and David is powerful. Both figures endured immense suffering and danger, yet they trusted in God's sovereignty and goodness. Their stories remind us that even in our darkest moments, God is at work, shaping us and preparing us for His purposes.
- Grace and Repentance: Your emphasis on humility, repentance, and God's grace is crucial. It’s comforting to know that our mistakes and failures do not disqualify us from God's plan. Instead, they become opportunities for growth and deeper reliance on His mercy. Hebrews 4:16 is a perfect anchor for this truth, inviting us to approach God boldly in our times of need.
- Eternal Perspective: The reference to Ephesians 2:10 ties everything together by reminding us that we are God's workmanship, created for good works that He has already prepared for us. This eternal perspective helps us stay focused on God's plan rather than being overwhelmed by temporary setbacks.
- Prayer: Your prayer is heartfelt and aligns well with the message of the devotion. It acknowledges God's sovereignty, expresses gratitude, and surrenders worries and cares to Him. It’s a model of how we can approach God with confidence and trust.
Additional Thoughts:
- Community and Accountability: While the devotion focuses on individual trust in God, it’s also important to remember that God often uses community to help us grow and complete the work He has for us. Encouragement, accountability, and fellowship with other believers can be vital in our spiritual journey.
- Patience in the Process: Completing the good work God has started in us is a lifelong process. It requires patience and perseverance. Sometimes, the "completion" may not be fully realized until we meet Christ face-to-face. This calls for a steadfast faith and trust in God's timing.
- Celebrating Progress: Even small steps of growth and obedience are significant. Celebrating these milestones can encourage us to keep moving forward, trusting that God is indeed at work in us.
Overall, your devotion is a wonderful reminder of God's faithfulness and grace. It encourages believers to trust in His plan, embrace His mercy, and continue walking in the good works He has prepared for us. Thank you for sharing this uplifting message!
